(Q) Is there an install tutorial available at Philex Technical?
(A) Philex Technical has a Microsoft ICS Install Tutorial that covers Windows 98/ME, 2000, and XP.
(Q) After installing AOL on a computer that is running ICS, my network no longer works.
(A) Windows 95/98 only supports 4 network adapters. AOL installs 2 adapters for itself. Because of this, AOL and not be installed on a computer that runs ICS. Remove AOL and reinstall ICS.
(Q) My Win2k server runs a DNS server? Can I run ICS on this server?
(A) NO, ICS will not run from a server that is running DNS services. This is a bug.
(Q) I am sharing my cable or DSL modem with Microsoft ICS on Windows 98/SE/ME but my transfer speeds are SLOW.
(A) DO NOT DO THIS FOR DIAL-UP MODEMS< only BROADBAND CONNECTIONS
Using Regedit, delete the following key on your ICS computer

(Q) Can I install ICS on Windows 95 or Windows 98?
(A) Microsoft ICS comes bundled with Windows 98 SE (second edition) and above. It is not included on Windows 95, 98, or NT.
(Q) I installed Microsoft ICS on Windows 98n SE but I can not find the sharing tab from the Internet Options dialog box

(Q) How do I uninstall ICS?
(A) In your control panel, double-click the "Add/Remove Programs" icon. Select the "Windows Setup" tab. Double click "Internet Options", and unselect the Internet Connection Sharing box. Click OK and OK again.
(Q) Netmeeting does not seem to work from behind ICS
(A) Netmeeting and ICS are not fully compatible with each other. You will experience problems with the white board, the file sharing, and possibly other features. You will definitely not be able to receive calls with NetMeeting with ICS running.
(Q) "Number of Computers Connected" is incorrect
(A) ICS displays the number of computers using the ICS service. It can take 10-15 minutes before a computer is recognized as gone. According to Microsoft, this is ‘by design’ and is normal. No fix is available, no fix will be made available.
(Q) I Re-installed of windows, now ICS will not work
(A) Known issue, uninstall ICS and re-install it.
(Q) My DSL or Cable Modem requires me to use PPPoE and some ICS clients can not connect to some web sites
(A) There is an MTU size issue ICS clients that are running Windows 2000 (possibly other OS' too). The MTU size must be under 1492 to function. See this article for details.
(Q) Can I install VPN software on an ICS Host computer?
(A) If you install a VPN service on a computer running ICS, ICS will no longer route internet requests. Instead, all traffic will be directed through the VPN. (OUCH!) DO NOT INSTALL VPN on a system with ICS running.
(Q) ICS will not dial my DSL connection. My DSL connection uses PPPoE
(A) 1) Uninstall ICS
2) Start Internet Explorer and select from the Menu
3) Set IE to "Always Dial My Default Connection"
3) Under Dialing Settings, select your DSL provider as your default connection.
4) Click OK and exit Internet Explorer
5) Install ICS
